ChampOne C1 Smartphone At Rs 501, the New Freedom 251?

An unheard-of company called ChampOne has listed a smartphone called ChampOne C1 on its website, with a price tag of Rs. 7,999. The company is launching the smartphone at Rs. 501 in its first flash sale on September 2 - for which registrations are now open. 

The website looks shabby at best, and the registration button is inactive. The company has put out a disclaimer citing "payment gateway" difficulties, and says that registrations won't work for the next 24 hours. However, it says that the smartphone will be sold through the 'Cash On Delivery Option' so we don't see why they even need a payment gateway. Some reports point to a registration fee, which in itself seems fishy.

The ChampOne C1 runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop and supports dual-SIM. It features a 5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) IPS display, and is powered by a 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6735 quad-core processor with 2GB RAM. It offers 16GB of inbuilt storage. Optics include an 8-megapixel back camera, and a 5-megapixel front snapper. There's a 2500mAh battery packed inside, and connectivity options include 4G LTE support. It will be made available in White, Silver, and Gold colour options.

Goverment May Soon Allow Wifi On Flights

Air passengers in India may soon be able to use Wi-Fi facility while flying and be connected to the internet.

"I will be able to give you good news in 10 days," remarked civil aviation secretary RN Choubey when asked about the prospect of Wi-Fi on board. No government of India official has been so forthcoming in their response so far on this issue. Choubey went a step further, "There is a fairly good chance that in ten days, permission will be given to operate Wi-Fi in the Indian airspace."

Fliers as of now are not allowed to use mobile phones and internet while flying in the Indian airspace. In fact it is considered an offence.

But with the civil aviation secretary's promise, it seems 'achhe din' has finally arrived for air passengers in India.

Gionee Launches Front Flash Smartphone S6s At Rs 17,999

Gionee has announced the launch of S6s, it’s first front flash smartphone in India at Rs 17,999. The device supports both 4G and VoLTE. Google's Android Nougat Starts Rolling Out, But Not For Nexus 5 Users

Google's Android 7.0 Nougat has started rolling out as an over the air update from today. The update is available to anyone using the Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X and Nexus 6 phones as well as the Nexus 9 and Pixel C tablets. The Nexus 5 users will not be getting the update.

The two biggest changes are new notifications and a multi-tasking mode. Notifications are now grouped by app in the notification shade; you can pull down on any app's alerts to get the full list. You can also reply directly from notifications, something that iOS has actually had for longer than Android.

Multi-window multitasking lets you run two apps side-by-side, just like you can on the iPad when running iOS 9. The quick settings menu can now be customized to include the things you access the most, and double-tapping the multitasking button switches you between the two more recent apps you've used.

Doze mode, a battery-saving measure introduced last year in Android Marshmallow, has also been tweaked. Previously, Doze would put your phone into a lower-energy mode when the screen was off and the phone wasn't moving, but now it's smart enough to stay in low-power mode even when you're moving around (say, if your phone is tucked in your pocket or backpack).

Save Data And Storage With New Offline Features On Google Maps

From today, it will be easier to prepare for those long stretches of wifi-free road while still saving on device storage and data, with the launch of  SD card support and “Wi-Fi only” mode for Google Maps on Android.

Now, in addition to saving an area of the maps for offline use later, if you have a device that supports SD cards, you can opt to save your downloaded maps to an external SD card (if your device supports them) and free up storage space for important stuff like your holiday snaps or road trip playlists. Now you’ll never have to choose between snapping more food photos or the ability to navigate offline.

Orkut Founder Launches Hello, A Social Network

In 2004, Orkut Büyükkökten and Githin Jose founded the social network Orkut as part of an independent project within Google. Now, he has launched Hello.com, a social network to inspire hope worldwide and to connect us with others that share the same passions.

Available for iOS and Android devices, Hello comes at a time when Facebook seemingly has dominated the social network landscape. The new app doesn’t use any external data beyond the contacts in your address book to find friends. When you sign up, one of the first steps you’ll need to do is select five “personas” that you have an interest in, such as photographer, Burner, animal lover, actor, clubber, foodie, geek, parent, skier, traveler, or vampire.

You can elect to use Hello in either English, French, or Portuguese.

Unlike Facebook, Hello is pursuing social connections not through friends and networking, but more from an interest-based social network, something that mirrors Pinterest. Büyükkökten said that focusing around common interests is what Orkut was all about and can help bring people together as “a vision that changes how the world does social.”

Hello is currently available in the U.S., Canada, France, the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and Brazil. Interestingly, Brazil was one of the biggest markets for Orkut in 2008. Büyükkökten and his team intend to launch in Germany, India, and Mexico later this month.

OPPO has announced the launch of the upgraded ‘Selfie Expert’ – OPPO F1s, at an event held in Mumbai. The F1s also sports a 5.5-inch screen and has a  0.22s fingerprint reader.

Xiaomi Redmi 3S Launched In India

Xiaomi launched its new Redmi 3S smartphone in India. The company also launched the Redmi 3S Prime model. 

The Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime sporst a 5-inch HD IPS display and run on MIUI 7.5 based on Android Marshmallow. Both phones feature a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and full HD 1080p video recording. The smartphones has a 5 MP front facing camera also with 1080p video recording feature. The Redmi 3S has a 2GB of RAM with 16GB inbuilt storage and the Redmi 3S Prime has 3GB of RAM and 32GB  inbuilt storage. Both smartphones storage can be extended up to 128GB via micro-sd card.

Lenovo Launches New Vibe K5 Note, Will Be Available On Flipkart

Lenovo has launched the Vibe K5 Note and will be available on Flipkart. It will go on sale on August 3. The Vibe K5 Note will be available in two variants. The 4GB enabled smartphone is priced at Rs 13,499 and the 3GB variant at Rs 11,499. 

Lenovo has also launched a TheaterMax Bluetooth controller priced at Rs 999 and is bundling the ANT VR headset and controller together. The GamePad and VR headset can be bought together at Rs 1,999. 

The Lenovo Vibe K5 Note features a metal unibody design and has a 5.5 inch full HD display with 401 ppi. It has a fingerprint scanner on the back and weighs 165 grams.

The Vibe K5 Note is powered by a MediaTek 6755 octa-core 64-bit processor clocked at 1.8 Ghz. The Lenovo Vibe K5 Note will come in two RAM variants, 3GB RAM and 4GB RAM. The in-built storage of the device is a decent 32GB and can be extended to 128gb via micro-SD card support.

Android Nougat Will be Releasing On Aug 5

According to sources, Google will be officially rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat on Aug 5. All compatible Nexus devices will get update except Nexus 5.

Nexus will remain out of the update loop as Google will proceed to launch the next generation of Nexus handsets later this month.

The new OS update will bring several new apps including a new Camera App which will bring several new features and more manual control of the camera.
