Xiaomi Mi 6 Announced: Snapdragon 835 And Dual Cameras For $360

Xiaomi has announced its latest flagship phone, the Mi 6, at an event in Beijing. While Xiaomi drew widespread attention last year with its impressive bezelless Mi Mix phone, the regular Mi line is a more mainstream affair, and that’s reflected here in the Mi 6’s design and pricing.

That’s not to say that Xiaomi is skimping on the specs. The Mi 6 has a Snapdragon 835 processor, the top-end Qualcomm chip only previously seen in the Samsung Galaxy S8 and announced in the Sony XZ Premium, which isn’t coming out until summer.

Elsewhere there’s 6GB of RAM, a 5.15-inch display as seen on the Mi 5, and a 3350mAh battery. Xiaomi is also including a 12-megapixel dual-camera array that takes Apple's approach of pairing the regular wide-angle lens with one of double the focal length.

The design is similar to the Mi 5 with its curved glass back and metal frame, though Xiaomi is highlighting a distinctive blue and gold colorway and the rear glass panel that curves along all four edges. Anyone expecting the Mi Mix’s almost total lack of bezels will be disappointed, however. Anyone expecting a headphone jack will also be disappointed.

As ever, don’t expect to see an official release for the Mi 6 in the US or Europe; even though Xiaomi attempted to make an international splash with the Mi 5’s unveiling at last year’s Mobile World Congress, the company remains largely focused on its main markets of China and India.

The Mi 6 starts at 2499 yuan (about $360) for a model with 64GB of storage, and a 128GB model will cost 2899 yuan ($420); that makes it a little more expensive than the Mi 5, which started at 1999 yuan. A Mi 6 variant with a ceramic back panel and 128GB of storage will sell for 2999 yuan ($435).

Xiaomi Mi 6 Press Renders Leaked

Recently, a leaked image of the Xiaomi Mi 6 tipped the arrival of a dual camera setup at the back. Now, fresh renders further testify the same feature, while also revealing other design details. The Xiaomi Mi 6 flagship has been subjected to many delays, however the latest leak hints at an April 11 launch date. 

The images were leaked on Weibo, and Techiestate. The pure black variant shown in the images reiterates the chamfered edges design at the back. The images also show that the volume and power buttons are housed on the right edge of the Mi 6. Furthremore, the Xiaomi Mi 6 has the flash located first on the left edge, followed by the two camera sensors at the back in one horizontal line. The report also points to an April 11 launch for the Xiaomi Mi 6.

According to earlier reports, the Xiaomi Mi 6 is expected to come in three variants, and the premium variant is expected to sport a dual curved display as well. The flagship was earlier tipped to initially launch with a Snapdragon 821 SoC, and it was said the launch of the most premium Xiaomi Mi 6 with the Snapdraagon 835 SoC could be delayed till May this year.

As for specifications, the most premium variant of the Xiaomi Mi 6 has been tipped to sport a Quad HD 2K OLED display with dual curved edges, 6GB of RAM, 256GB of inbuilt storage, and dual rear camera setup. The most basic variant was tipped to sport 4GB of RAM, and 64GB inbuilt storage. Previous leaks suggest that the handset will house a 4000mAh battery and be priced at around CNY 2,499 (roughly Rs. 25,000).

This 6.4-inch device has just been announced as a concept phone by the Chinese company, but weirdly enough, it has a price, ¥3,499 ($516), and a release date of November 4th in its home country.

Think of every out-there spec you could cram into a phone and the Xiaomi Mi Mix probably has it. The rear of this handset and its side buttons are both made out of ceramic. The display is curved at the corners — just like that Sharp prototype we recently saw — and all the top-mounted sensors have been removed. The proximity sensor has been replaced by ultrasound, the earpiece has been replaced with a piezoelectric speaker that uses the metal frame to generate sound, and the front-facing camera is relocated to the bottom (though the phone can thankfully be rotated upside down for more flattering selfies).

Inside, the Mi Mix has the latest Snapdragon 821 chip that powers Google’s Pixels, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Looking at the status bar above, the Mi Mix seems to also have support for two SIMs, a popular feature in China, and Xiaomi also notes it has a 192Hz / 24-bit DAC chip for higher-resolution audio. There’ll also be a ¥3,999 ($590) option with 6GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and 18-karat gold accents around the camera and fingerprint sensor on the rear of the Mix. The battery weighs in at a generous 4,400mAh, the rear camera comes in at 16 megapixels with phase-detect autofocus, and yes, the headphone jack is intact .

Xiaomi Redmi 3S Launched In India

Xiaomi launched its new Redmi 3S smartphone in India. The company also launched the Redmi 3S Prime model. 

The Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime sporst a 5-inch HD IPS display and run on MIUI 7.5 based on Android Marshmallow. Both phones feature a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and full HD 1080p video recording. The smartphones has a 5 MP front facing camera also with 1080p video recording feature. The Redmi 3S has a 2GB of RAM with 16GB inbuilt storage and the Redmi 3S Prime has 3GB of RAM and 32GB  inbuilt storage. Both smartphones storage can be extended up to 128GB via micro-sd card.

The dual-SIM phones (Micro + Nano) come with hybrid SIM slots. The Redmi 3S Prime features a fingerprint scanner at the back panel. Both devices is powered by octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor clocked at 1.1GHz with Adreno 505 GPU.

Xiaomi Launches Mi Mosquito Repellent At Rs 290

Xiaomi, well know for manufacturing smartphones has launched for the first time ever, mosquito repellent. The Mi electric mosquito repellent is super portable and also super cheap.

The Mi mosquito repellent is a circular apparatus, that holds a mosquito repellent mat inside, that can be put in and replaced via a 90 degrees turn. The device is devoid of any battery or power source and instead relies on a microUSB cable for connectivity. The far end of this cable can be connected to a power bank, preferably, one that is sold by Xiaomi. 

Weighing in at 25 grams and measuring just 46.8mm x 20.5mm, the Mi mosquito repellent is super portable. The device is based on PTC Low-voltage thermostat and is also dust-proof at the same time. The company has priced it at 29 Yuan (roughly $4 or Rs 290). The Mi electric mosquito repellent is exclusively available for buying in China, as for now.

Xiaomi Mi Max Launched At Rs 14,999

Xiaomi has launched its supermassive Mi Max phablet in the Indian market. The device will be available in two variants, a Snapdragon 650 variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage for INR 14,999 ($222) and a Snapdragon 652 variant with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage for INR 19,999 ($296).

The Mi Max has a giant 6.44-inch 1080p display with a metal body and a fingerprint sensor on the back. The phone also packs a 16 megapixel camera on the back with PDAF and a 8 megapixel camera on the front. As mentioned before, the device comes in a choice of Snapdragon 650 or Snapdragon 652 variants with 3/32GB and 4/128GB memory and storage configurations, respectively. Powering all this is a massive 4850mAh battery.

The phone will be available through an open sale starting July 13 from Mi.com, Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal, and Paytm.

Xiaomi Unveils Its First Drone, Costs Just $450 For 4K Model

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi officially unveiled its first drone. The company is working with China-based Flymi, which creates the devices. Xiaomi is putting its considerable brand behind the drone and selling it via its channels, which include its Mi.com online store.

The drone is a lot cheaper than the competition, as we have come to expect from Xiaomi. The Mi drone is priced at 2499 CNY (around $380) for the entry-level device with a 1080P camera and 2999 CNY ($450) for the more advanced model with a 4K camera. 

Xiaomi said that the Mi Drone can fly for 27 minutes per session thanks to a 5,100 mAh battery and to a range of 3km. It also includes a 360-degree camera that can shoot 4K video, and handheld remote which has the option of attaching a smartphone for a live-feed view from the drone.

Announcing the Mi Drone on a live stream, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said it is not just for rich kids. The company wants to use its profile (and the exceptionally low pricing) to help democratize the technology and enable those who don’t have a spare thousand-plus dollars lying around to own a drone.

Two versions of Xiaomi Mi 5 expected at Launch

We have been hearing a few rumours about Xiaomi’s Mi 5 smartphone recently. According to sources will launch two Mi 5 smartphones.

Premium Mi5

The first model is expected to feature a full HD display, curved 3D-glass back and the second model a full metal body with QHD (2560 x 1440 pixel) display. The premium model will have 4GB of RAM and 64GB on board storage. The device will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset clocked at 2.5 GHz. 

A 20 MP rear camera and an 8 MP is expected in the device. The smartphone will support 4G and will house a 3,800 mAh battery. The launch date is expected to be next month.

Xiaomi teases Redmi 3 launch on January 12

Xiaomi, has now confirmed by posting a teaser on Chinese social network Weibo, that the Redmi 3 will be unveiled on Jan 12. 

It packs a 5 inch HD (1280x720p) display, 1.5GHz octa core SoC, 2GB RAM and 16GB of inbuilt storage. It will sport a 13MP rear and 5MP front facing Selfie Snapper. It runs on Android Lollipop 5.1 and measures at 139.3x69.6x8.5mm and weighs up at 143gms. 

The back of the device which got leaked via the official teaser, is however somewhat different from the one listed in TENAA. As a matter of fact the device in the teaser images comes with a textured back unlike the smooth metal finished one found in the TENAA images.

Mi India announces updated Pick Mi service

Mi India has announced an update regarding Pick Mi, a unique home pickup, repair and drop-off after sales service. Mi users can now give a 'missed call' to 7676404444 to book the Pick Mi service. Additionally customers can call the toll free number 1800 103 6286. Pick Mi is available at a nominal fee of Rs. 189, which can be paid online or via Cash on Delivery.

Currently Pick Mi is available at more than 6076 pin-codes, 597 cities, 29 states and 4 Union Territories. The service is available in even  distance places like Kohima, Bhuj, Kangra and Andaman Nicobar islands. In metros (Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai), the service is operated through a biker runner model and in the rest of India, through Fedex as a courier partner. The total time taken for picking up a device, having it repaired and being delivered back to the customer is 24 hours for metros (Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata) and 7-10 days for the rest of India.

Mi India announced today a price drop of the 16GB Mi 4i smartphone. It will cost a 1000 bucks less and will now be available for Rs. 11,999 starting mid-night (00.00hrs) on 18th November 2015. It will be available on its official website Mi.com, as well as across all Mi India partners including Flipkart, Amazon, Snapdeal, The Mobile Store and Airtel.

Mi India rolls out MIUI 7 Global Stable Build today

Mi India has rolled out MIUI 7 global stable build for MIUI users all around the world. Xiaomi Sells 34.7 Million Smartphones In First Half Of 2015

Leading Chinese smartphone company Xiaomi claims that it has sold 34.7 million smartphones in the first half of 2015, an increase of 33%. Xiaomi had sold more than 61 million handsets last year. Xiaomi has maintained its ranking as China’s top smartphone vendor in terms of market share for five consecutive quarters. In February this year, analyst firm IDC revealed that Xiaomi ranked first in China for the year of 2014, with a market share of 12.5%.

"Even with the China smartphone market slowing down, we did a stellar job of posting a 33% growth on last year’s numbers. It can be said that we outperformed the market and produced an excellent report card," said Lei Jun, founder and CEO of Xiaomi.

Sales on Mi.com make up 70% of Xiaomi’s total smartphone sales, helping the company become China’s third-largest e-commerce player. During Mi Fan Festival in April this year, Xiaomi sold 2.12 million phones in just 12 hours.

Currently, the majority of Xiaomi’s smartphones are already on open sale without the need for pre-registration, making it more convenient for users to make purchases. Among the smartphones released by Xiaomi, six models—Mi 2, Mi 3, Redmi, Redmi Note, Mi 4 and Redmi 2 have so far shipped over 10 million units each. Mi product range includes, Mi 4, Redmi 2, Mi TV, Mi Band and other accessories.
