FreeCharge launches Coupons to boost User Engagement

FreeCharge, India’s leading digital payments platform has announced the launch of coupons on its e-wallet to enhance user engagement and reactivation. Through this initiative users can now benefit from every recharge & bill payment they make on FreeCharge and can select coupons worth the same amount that effectively leads to equivalent savings.


The company has tied up with prominent brands across all categories including food, shopping, travel, ticketing and entertainment to provide the users with array of options. To avail the facility the user has to simply recharge or pay bills using the FreeCharge app and click on ‘pick free coupons’ on the payment successful page. The next step is to choose one or more coupons from their favorite brands and redeem from ‘My Coupons’ option on the app. The facility is currently available on Android and will soon be launching on other platforms. 

The users can avail offers from over 100 brands such as Swiggy, Foodpanda, Zomato, Shoppers Stop, Puma, Van Huesen, Yatra, Goibibibo, Cleartrip, Bookmyshow, McDelivery and much more. The company will also be adding more categories including spas, restaurants and salons to provide more localized offers & services.

FreeCharge has also taken several strategic steps to bring added efficiency and sharpened focus on profitability. Mahanagar Gas Limited, one of India’s leading Natural gas distribution company provides CNG refuel services across Mumbai, Thane, Mira – Bhayender and Navi Mumbai with nearly 190 CNG gas filling stations. Customers refilling their vehicles at the MGL CNG pumps can opt for a swift and secure FreeCharge payments and complete their transaction in under 10 seconds.

Faridabad Skyway Go Cashless With FreeCharge

FreeCharge has announced that it is now live on the Delhi – Faridabad Skyway, which connects Delhi with Faridabad.



Users can now pay toll charges via FreeCharge on Delhi-Faridabad Skyway, which is used by thousands of commuters everyday as it provides the fastest link to Faridabad from parts of South Delhi and Noida. In order to make a payment, the customer has to scan the QR code displayed at the toll counter using his app and enter the payment amount to complete the transaction.

The recent demonetization drive has led to the suspension of toll collection and reintroduction has led to traffic delays due to paucity of change at toll points. With the acceptance of FreeCharge for payment of toll at the Delhi – Faridabad Skyway, the problems associated with cash collection and tendering of change will be resolved to a large extent.

Last month FreeCharge had shared that users on the 165 km long Yamuna Expressway, which links Delhi to Agra could pay their toll charges using FreeCharge.

Freecharge Partners With Indian Oil Corporation Limited

Freecharge, India’s fastest growing digital payments platform, has partnered with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) for cashless payments for LPG cylinder deliveries across the country.



The pilot project for this is already live with multiple distributors in Bangalore, Chandigarh, Raipur and Kolkata. By the end of March 2017, the project is expected to cover the entire IOCL network comprising nearly 8000 dealerships across India.

Once the roll out is complete, every IOCL consumer will have the option to pay for the LPG deliveries using their Freecharge wallet. At the point of delivery, customers will be able to complete payment for their LPG cylinders within 10 seconds and at the tap of a button. The payment will get completed even without Internet connectivity, since Freecharge’s On-The-Go-Pin works even in offline mode.

Freecharge partners with Axis Bank to launch UPI payments

Freecharge has partnered with Axis Bank to launch Unified Payments Interface (UPI) enabled payment on its Android app.  UPI will enable instant transactions from a smartphone using a virtual payment address (VPA). 



Consumers will be able to create a virtual address on the Freecharge Android app and link it to their bank account to register on the UPI platform. This feature will allow consumers to pay on Freecharge in a secure and swifter way for transactions in the first phase and over the next few weeks.

Since this option is only available on the new version of Android app, users will have to upgrade to the latest version of the Android app to see this option while doing recharges/bill/utility payments.

Customers can create multiple handles/VPA linked to their bank accounts. The merchant or beneficiary will only be able to see the customer VPA in this process. Consumers can register for UPI through Freecharge app. Freecharge will also be driving registrations through other channels such as e-mails, notifications and campaigns.

Freecharge Launches Escrow Services

Freecharge, India’s fastest growing digital payments platform has unveiled a buyer protection service by launching escrow facility for merchants and customers. The escrow service mitigates risk of unsuccessful shopping experiences and safeguards customers’ money by withholding funds till they receive the right product.



The first merchant for this service, Shopo, has integrated Freecharge wallet on its app to offer escrow protection to its buyers and sellers. After buyers place orders by paying through Freecharge, the seller is notified that the buyer has completed the payment, and money is on hold in escrow. 


Once the order is delivered to the buyer, the money is automatically released to the seller. In case the order is not shipped or delivered within the stipulated time, the money is refunded to the buyer’s wallet. Sounds good to us.

Freecharge Partners With HPCL Petrol Pumps

Freecharge Becomes First Digital Payments App To Launch On Windows 10
