Facebook Messenger Lite comes to India

Facebook Messenger today rolled out the "lite" version of its  app – Messenger Lite - in India. Messenger Lite is a lightweight, fast and simple version of Messenger that offers the core features of Messenger for markets with slower than average internet speeds and a prevalence of basic Android smartphones.

Messenger Lite offers the same basic functions as Messenger, enabling users to send and receive texts, photos, links, emojis and stickers. Messenger Lite is under 10MB, so it’s fast to install and quick to start up.

The new Messenger Lite also enables voice calling and the active now indicator. It also has the ability to view and remove group members and add members to groups. Messenger Lite was previously rolled out in countries such as Vietnam, Nigeria, Peru, Turkey, Germany, Japan and the Netherlands. In India with Messenger Lite, more people can stay in contact, regardless of network conditions or storage limitations on their Android devices.

Messenger Lite is a solution for people who don’t have the latest smartphone, but still want to stay connected to their friends and family.

Meru Cabs Now Available On Facebook Messenger

Meru Cabs has announced the integration of their cab booking system with Facebook Messenger to provide automated cab booking facility. Meru’s entire range of taxi services will now be accessible to Facebook users via Facebook Messenger and will allow them book cabs through key words, intelligent chat bot and conversational question.

Adopting the latest technology, Meru aims to widen their customer base by providing convenient and seamless cab booking access to its users. Facebook messenger users can simply search “Meru Cabs” on Facebook Messenger under ‘Bots and Business’ section and begin interaction. After the initial mobile number verification (one time), the user starts a normal chat with Meru Messenger Bot to book a cab.

Once the location is shared on the chat box, the user is then directed to choosing sedan (Meru) or hatchback (MeruGenie) cab available for the trip with the ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival). Once confirmed, the Meru Messenger Bot responds on real time basis with the cab details along with the chuffer’s mobile number. The bot enables the user locate his/her cab & check the fare details.
