LEGO Marvel’s Avengers Review

Lego games are typical; funny, cute, with LEGO pieces everywhere, a major arching story line of the movies, simple moves, lots of coop fun, awkward camera angles and clunky level design. This pretty much sums up every Lego game out there and Lego Marvel’s Avengers is no different.

You tag team with these characters first

Lots of Characters & Story
Here you dawn the cape (or rather the lack of) of your favourite superheroes (several infact), Iron Man, The Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Widow, etc. Not only is the roster of characters big, the story itself is based off The Avengers, Avengers Age of Ultron, Captain America, Iron Man 3, Thor: Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Now that’s a lot of content, infact lots and lots of it. It’s like a kid in a candy shop that can’t get enough.

Unfortunately you won’t find X-Men, Spiderman, nor the Fantastic Four (not that you’ll miss them too much) due to licensing issues. However, you’ll find crazy amount of lesser known characters which you may not have heard of except if you are a comic book fan e.g. playable Kamala Khan, Squirrel Girl, check out the entire roster here.

That’s one crazy roster

Grand Theft LEGO
This indeed surprised, LEGO Marvel’s Avengers has open world sections. You can have Hulk funnily steal a car and drive around the City till it explodes (It is Hulk after all). You have lots of interesting little things to do, plenty of distractions, Easter eggs, incredible amount of collectibles and hundreds of side missions.

Gameplay
Well if you played LEGO games in the past, you know how the gameplay goes. You are never instructed how to play, the control generally suck, very little information as to how to use them, and in the puzzle sections you’ll be stuck for ten minutes simply because things aren't clear as to what one needs to do.

The game does get boring as there are no new challenges so to speak and neither are finding new characters incredibly rewarding other than having another one in your roster. The game gets a lot more fun in co-op though the co-op is essentially limited to the local machine/console, making it a perfect family fun kind-of-game.

Seriously, you can’t expect much but yet convincingly serviceable at the same time

Graphics
Lols. It’s LEGO, its cutely believable in the LEGO world and oh yeah you can go all the way upto to 4k resolution even on piddly hardware - Makes one feel like a boss/superhero.

Verdict
The game is fun if you are into this kind of gameplay. It is perfect family fun game which doesn’t take itself too seriously and you’ll take really long to finish the game if you are a completionist. Oh and did we mention, there’s a season pass that adds 40 new characters, 5 new levels and more. Buy it when it is on sale and keep on playing.
